This information is From Brain Davis, who helps run the local community chess club:
The Red River Chess Club meets every Tuesday evening between 7 PM and 9 PM at Joe Mugg's coffee shop at Books a Million, Sikes Senter Mall. Between 4 and 12 players usually show up. It's open to the public and we really don't mind youngsters who want to learn the game. Most kids would do well to see how more experienced players control the board and their pieces. Their own play usually accelerates after that. No dues, no fees. It is polite to purchase something from Joe Mugg's since they are nice enough to let us use their facility.
The group has offered to assist us in organizing a scholastic level tournament in the future. They hope to have a USCF rated tournament in WF in the near future. Brian's son, Robert, was a state champion when he was in sixth grade. If you are interested in Chess contact Brian at BD2806@aol.com
