PARK DAY EVERY FRIDAY

Home School Park Day is a great way for your students and pre-school children to make new friends and burn off that extra energy while moms get to know one another and encourage each other.  Park Day is not just for elementary students; teens are welcome as well.  Bring your lawn chairs, balls, sand toys, and snacks.  You may want to bring a change of clothes for the younger ones since kids often end up very sandy or dirty and even get wet in puddles!  Oh the fun they have at Park Day!  Come join us, won't you?

We meet every Friday, weather permitting.  During the school year, we meet at a new park each month.  Park Day starts at 1 p.m. and goes until the last family leaves!  In the summer months, we start at 9 a.m.

For this month's location, check out the Files section of the Main Yahoo Group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WFareahomeschoolers/)
or contact the Park Day Coordinator:

Adventures with Literature

My hope for this group is to use books as a jumping off point to adventure.  The kinds of books I am imagining are along the lines of Magic School Bus or other books that can be used to have new adventures with while learning.  I am thinking that our gathering times would be used for experiments, field trips, games, anything that focuses on the book we are using. Maybe an overnight camping if we do a book about the stars? Depending on how many moms participate, I see us working in teams for each book.  One book a month?  All of my other ideas are open for input.  Meeting every week?  Every other week?

Who is this gathering aimed at?  I am starting this for my son Elijah.  Since he has friends that are girls and boys and of ages a younger and older than him (8 yrs) we will go that direction for now. How is that for being too nebulous?

Where will we decide what we are going to do?  Meet at a park  map of all the parks in Wichita Falls on August 5 at 10 a.m.  - Help me choose a park and I will reserve a pavilion. Or if you have a different location in mind let me know!

Place we will adventure from?  I would like to conduct this group in the outdoors if at all possible.  To the extremes of walking in the rain if it ever does that again. Sweat when it is hot.  Wear coats when its' cold.

P.S. I am starting a yahoo loop so we won't be clogging this loop forever. All messages will go there after the H.E.A.T. Kick Off picnic in August.  If you have already decided to join my insane idea this is the link to Adventures With Literature.
