Home School Enrichment (Co-op)

Home School Enrichment was designed to enrich your family's home schooling experience. We offer parent taught classes one day a week that vary from year to year. Parents sign up their children to take classes and then volunteer to teach or help out with the classes that are offered. We currently have 2 semesters per school year. The Fall semester starts in September and the Spring Semester starts in February.

Each family pays an annual fee of $10 to be a member of HSE. Class fees are set by each teacher to cover materials needed for the class.
We meet every Monday during the semester unless noted.

The classes offered by Enrichment change each semester. The subjects offered depends on what parents volunteer to teach. We have classes available for Pre-K all the way through High School. PE, Music Theory for elementary students, and Choir for older students are offered each semester.

For the latest information on Enrichment and answers to any questions you may have, please join our yahoo group at www.groups.yahoo.com/group/HSEnrichment.

MARK
Another way to connect with other homeschoolers in the Wichita Falls area is through the M.A.R.K. (Minds Abiding in Righteousness and Knowledge)

What is the MARK?:  We are a group of homeschool families who have joined together to teach creation-based science, physical education (caring for God's temple), and more. Our co-operative is founded on Mark 12:30.  We strive to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.  We are uniting as home school families to provide social, academic, and character building activities that honor God and enhance our home schooling experience.

When and Where do we meet?: We will meet on Tuesday afternoons (12:15 to 3:30) at Lamar Baptist Church on Harrison Street from Jan 31 to April 24, 2012.

How are the classes structured?:  Kindergarten through eighth grade are grouped into classes (K, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8) and rotate through 3 activity periods: p.e., science, and an elective (each an hour long).  Preschoolers stay in their classrooms for age appropriate activities.  Babies and toddlers are cared for in the nursery, which includes a nap.

What is the elective going to be?: Grades 1-3 will be doing "Art Exploration" using www.deepspacesparkle.com. Grades 4-6 have two options: "Art Exploration" OR ??? Grades 7-8 will be doing "Creative Writing."

What science topics will be taught?: This year grades 1-6 will be reading Apologia's Exploring Creation with Anatomy and Physiology (Young Explorers Series) and doing related experiments and lessons in class. Grades 7-8 will use Apologia's General Science textbook.

What do the moms do?:  Teach! Help! Facilitate learning! EVERY mom is plugged in to share the workload of teaching our children.  Participation in the MARK co-op requires FULL parental involvement every week for the ENTIRE afternoon.

Is there anything for high schoolers?:  Yes! The MARK will be offering one SAC (Secondary Academic Core) class this year:  Biology.  This class will have an experienced paid teacher so it does NOT require parental participation, but there are additional fees for high school classes.  For more information about the Biology SAC class at the MARK, please contact Trina Watson at botrinawatson@hotmail.com or 636-2794.

How do I register?:  Registration for the spring begins Tuesday, January 3, 2012,  and will close the following Tuesday, January 10.  Registration forms will soon be available. Participation requires that you be homeschooling at least one child over the age of five, agree to our rules and expectations, and pay the registration fee of $30 ($25 for H.E.A.T. members) and any additional supply fees requested by the teachers.  A textbook is also required for the science class for 1st grade and up.  Spring classes begin on Jan 31.

Is there someone I can contact for more information?:
Please contact Melissa Okeke @ okuokeke@att.net
